The Intentions of Instituitions - Professor Timothy Endicott

Because legislation is an intentional law-making act, the legislature’s intention is of fundamental importance to the law. But where a court needs to interpret an act of legislation, there is no general reason for the law to treat the intention of the legislature as a ground of interpretation. I will argue that these two claims are supported by a true understanding of the role of intention in the decisions of institutions in general.

Student members (including transferring lawyers) must attend all elements of the event in order to be awarded the Qualifying Session. This includes any lecture/talk/reception/dinner/speeches.
